Day 9: First 10 Songs On Shuffle & How They Make Me Feel
- I have a semi-varied set of music on my list. I will share the songs and then discuss the songs with you and how they make me feel.
- I did skip a few songs to make the list, but that was because it's songs I have not long downloaded and haven't yet listened to, or songs that have been on there for years and I have nothing to say about them as I haven't really listened to them.
Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na) - My Chemical Romance
Sex Metal Barbie - In This Moment
Mayhem - Halestorm
Ignorance - Paramore
Push (Acoustic) - Avril Lavigne
Reverie (Acoustic) - The Hype Theory
Easier To Run - Linkin Park
Breathe No More - Evanescence
Never Giving Up - Of Mice & Men
The Reckoning - Halestorm
Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na) - My Chemical Romance
This is an amazing song, one that I really love. The lyrics are really great, and it is also an effective use of a 2 letter word! It's so catchy and makes me want to sing along to it. To me it's a pretty uplifting song in a way, however the lyrics are quite meaningful and deep. It shows how MCR have grown up, and that growing up and seeing things differently is okay, and it's all a part of being human and being alive, and includes some of the issues in the world today, and that is why I love this song!
Sex Metal Barbie - In This Moment
I absolutely love In This Moment and Maria Brink's voice, it's so unique and powerful! This song is so amazing and full of meaning and quite hard hitting. In some ways I really relate to this song - which is all about assumptions and rumors told about a person and the fact that people believe it, and how people judge someone due to where they live/how they look or sound/who their family is and many other things about a person, and about some of the things she has heard about herself and what she has been told. I'm sure we've all had people making assumptions about us, or been told that we can't do something because of who we are. I like how, by doing this song, she has basically said a big "fuck you" to the haters and people who judge her, and that she is owning what people say to/about her.
Mayhem - Halestorm
Lzzy Hale is so amazing, and I love how powerful her voice is as well! This song describes some feelings I have had, the boredom with how plain life is, which is part of the reason I love it, but it has the whole Halestorm angsty feel to it, which is the main reason that I love it. It is so full of aggression and angst and fire, and the lyrics are completely honest and Lzzy puts no filter on how she is feeling and what she is going through in terms of boredom and wanting more out of life - wanting fun and a little mayhem. This song makes me feel so much better when I am angry and when I am stuck in a rut, and really makes me want to headbang too!!
Ignorance - Paramore
This is one of the songs that I grew up with, I was 13 when it was released and I used to love dancing and "raving" to this song, and even though I had never experienced what the song was actually about, I liked to pretend that I felt it. I love this song now probably as much as I did then. This is another song where there is no filter on the lyrics at all, and Hayley says what she wants to and what she feels she needs to. The rhythm of the song is amazing, and that is one of the reasons that it makes me feel better when I am in an angry/angsty mood! I love the lyrics of this song as well, there's a lot of sarcastic phrasing and I relate to a lot of the lines and feelings of this song.
Push (Acoustic) - Avril Lavigne
This video is not the video of the actual acoustic version of the sing, but I wanted to include a video. Honestly it is so beautiful acoustic though. I generally do prefer the acoustic versions of songs, as the emotions can be heard and felt a lot more, and that way you can truly appreciate the beauty of the vocals and the lyrics. I have been a fan of Avril Lavigne for so many years. When this song was released, I didn't really understand what the song was about from experience, as I had never been through it by then. But when going through the last 2 breakups (well the end of the relationship that lead up to the relationship), the song came to me and I listened to it so much. It really helped me with what I was going through, and put through the realisation that it is not all my fault and it is normal what I was feeling, and that life and love are all a little messy. And also that it takes 2 people fighting for the relationship and both people really wanting it to make the relationship work.
Reverie (Acoustic) - The Hype Theory
Again, this isn't the actual acoustic version of the song, but it is one that has a video. I love this version of the song so much more than the original, and I love the original. I listened to the older The Hype Theory music and stopped listening to them for a while, and then I heard the regular version of this song when it was released and I fell in love with the band all over again. I heard it when I was having issues with the guy I was dating before my most recent ex and I really felt the lyrics of the song and the meaning of it. It helped me through the really difficult time and the song came to me right when I needed it.
Easier To Run - Linkin Park
There isn't an official video for this song, but have the audio. So I absolutely LOVE Linkin Park, but I have a really hard time listening to them since Chester passed away last July, and have only listened to a few songs. Until Sunday, I hadn't listened to this song in well over a year, and listening to it made me realise how much I love it and how much I used to love listening to it. I haven't listened to it since Sunday and it was hard for me to listen to it so I don't know when I will be able to next - but more about this will be in this weeks diary entry and I will write a proper post on it soon. But I love this song so much. It was one of the first few songs I heard by Linkin Park, and would have heard it in 2004 maybe. I loved the lyrics even though I didn't fully understand them back then. When I got older, I fell in love with the song even more as it puts into words my mental illness and how it makes me feel, and honestly it Is so much easier to run than staying here in this warzone, fighting myself each day.
Never Giving Up - Of Mice & Men
This song is absolutely beautiful and has made me cry so many times. When I first heard the song, I was in one of my lowest places and I really needed it. The lyrics are beautiful and I was close to giving up, and while listening to the song, it was like the band were telling me that they wished I wouldn't give up and that they believed in me and that they would never give up on me - and I needed for someone to not give up on me. Now I still feel the same way - I still need this song in my life and it still saves me. But now the chorus of the song also makes me think of my best friend, as I don't want him to give up either, so in my head, I dedicate the song to him. I also absolutely love how the line "even though I know you want me to, I'm never giving up on you" is sung, as it sounds beautiful!!
The Reckoning - Halestorm
This song was one of my favourites for quite a while recently. When I first heard the song, I thought it was beautiful and some of the lyrics made me think of my relationship with my boyfriend at the time (my most recent ex) and how I was feeling and how he made me feel, but it wasn't until a lot later that the song really impacted me and that I really needed this song. When it got towards the last couple of months of my relationship; back when I knew I needed to end the relationship because I was the only person putting any effort into the relationship and that I was being treated like dirt all the time I heard the song when I was in the middle of a breakdown that my ex caused and honestly it made me feel a lot better about myself and the situation. I realised that I wasn't alone, and I felt so strong and like I could make it through anything, so that song (and What Sober Couldn't Say, also by Halestorm) were listened to multiple times a day to help me get through the dark times leading up to and just after my breakup. The lyrics were perfect and really helped me, and my favourite line is "why did you, watch me suffer, make me feel like I deserved to" because it is something I wished I had the answer to, I wish I knew why he treated me like that.
